Western Wall in Jerusalem is perhaps the most coveted piece of real estate on earth. Significant to Judaism, Christianity and Islam, it has been held by nearly every great ancient civilization, at one time. Although legend tells of it being the location of the Garden of Eden, its relevance most accurately begins as being part of Mt. Moriah where Abraham was prepared to sacrifice his son. Around 1000 B.C., it was later a Jebusite threshing floor purchased by King David as a place to build a dwelling place for The Most High on earth and a resting place for the Ark of the Covenant. Solomon later in 960-926 B.C. built the First Temple which stood about 400 years until it was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon.
Upon being allowed to return from exile, and under the leadership of Nehemiah, the Second Temple was consecrated in 525 B.C. Conflicts with Seleucid rulers led to the Maccabean uprising, and severe damage to the Temple In 37 B.C. Herod extended the Temple Mt. area and rebuilt the 2nd Temple which stood at the time of Jesus.
